Grand Opening

Introducing The new Professions page! As the needs of the blog have grown so too has our approach to getting the necessary content out there for others to see. In an attempt to make elements of this project more manageable we have expanded our blogs scope.

You will find all of the Trades, Classes, Titles, and Ranks listed within this page. It is in this area that many of the profession skill trees will eventually be uncovered. As of now, it is also one of the areas needing the greatest work. While there are hundreds of skills listed within our master sheet (which is not published online) there are still hundreds of skills to be created.

Skills need to have an actual impact on gameplay. For example, the skill 'Animal Tracking' means that an avatar can track animals, but what does it mean in game? Avatars with this skill will be able to see a highlighted print of any animal tracks that fall within their skill level, as well as disturbed foliage, and in some cases scent. So you see that there must be an application for each skill, or more simply put, each skill must translate into a feature or function. Understanding this while creating the skill trees will go a long way in saving our programmers countless headaches in trying to understand how a skills application will play out.

The two areas that have received the most attention so far are the Classes and the Trades. But no area has received as much attention as the Trades as thousands of skills have been researched and established. Some of the earlier posts on Team Epimetheus presented examples of a few trades skills, but the trees have not been worked out. We want these skill trees to be very accurate to the real-world application as players will inherently learn usable skills simply by playing the game.

As always please feel free to send us your feedback or share with us any interest you might have in the project. Team Epimetheus is always looking to recruit aspiring: game developers, artists, and programmers. There are even mechanical elements that have no need for artistic or programming skill. You can find a list of contact information on the 'About Us' page and a variety of ways in which YOU can help make this game come alive by going to the 'Contribute' page.

  1. Very mundane I would say. BUT! Very needed. In depth trades and skills are essential for accurate play and layout.
It is great that there will be real life skills put into the game and avatars. While playing, people will also be able to pick up knowledge of know how.
