Greatsword
A seasoned unit of Greatswords is a devastating presence on an open battlefield. They can literally mow down nearly any opposing force. Even a Calvary unit not charging offers little in defense against the Greatswords.
There are a handful of differing two-handed swords that can be wielded by this specialized soldier. They are known to wear heavy armor as well and they present as quite the confronting force. However, they are easy pickings for any archery unit whereas they have no shield to hide behind.
The Greatsword unit was first introduced in the Battle of Crowns when King Rosando sought to utilize his people's large stature as leverage against King Lutiona's men. The impact they had on Lutiona's forces was palpable. The sheer noise of hundreds of soldiers being hacked to death sent ripples of fear throughout the ranks. The Lutonians suffered such a defeat that they were never able to recover from that battle.
Today any professional army lacking a unit of Greatswords would be hard pressed to face an opposing army that had one. But in the hands of an uneducated general Greatswords can be reduced to nothing short of an expensive unit of fodder. While incredibly effective they are also vulnerable to flanking and missiles.
